going shopping tomorrow
« on: September 07, 2012, 04:05:54 PM »
I have never had a burning need for a "black rifle" but I'm thinking the time has come.  Mobile gun show is this weekend so I'll be pricing if not buying.  Local Wal-Mart has the Colt LE6920 for $1097 and if I can beat that I'll be bringing one home.  Nothing fancy or tricked-out.  I know I can get an AR for a lot less but I like sticking with the big names and they are truly mil-spec so most any part or accessory will fit down the road.  When I brought it up to the wife her first comment was "You just bought a gun 2 weeks ago".  After I explained the need for a good zombie killer she said "Whatever".  That is permission to buy it, correct?

Absolutely, that was permission to buy.

Made a little horse trade yesterday. Here's what I got for the store:

It doesn't make that nice racking sound like a pump, but not sure he's gonna hear much anyway.

5.56 fitz.  Shoot me some info.

Scott, my house gun is an 870 pump but all they are going to hear is the safety click off.  There is already one in the chamber.  I don't have kids to worry about and I lock it up when the grandkids come around.
A small .45 is on my list, maybe even that XDm Compact.  I have not handled one yet.

I have to go slow to keep the peace at home.

Thanks for the link Scott.
About that coach gun.  A double barrel is probably the last thing I would ever want to stare down.   :thumright:

The Stoeger double barrel coach is nasty. Exact legal length. Little double barrel hand cannon. Easy to swing around.

Twelve gauge, two 3 inch shells. Loaded it with OO Buck today. Hidden from view and hanging right above the cash register.

The dealer suggests loading it with personal defense rounds so it won't go through walls and harm bystanders. We have a lot of tourists here, so will do that.

Gave you the wrong link by mistake on the Springfield subcompact 45. It is the latest model XDs, not XDm. The one he supplied was test fired at the factory August 18th, 2012. They shipped the empty brass with the test date certified...pretty neat.

I found something special for you JJ

I had that for my signature for a while.

Going down to the pond to pop off a few rounds.

Oh yeah, the home defense or law enforcement buckshot would probably be a better idea.  It will still do a fine job at indoor distances.  Easier on the other end of the gun too.

Scott - you might want to consider the old cut shell trick for that coach gun.  Makes a slug-like impact using a #6, #7, or #8 shot shell - makes it into a 75 caliber Glaser - incredible stopping power, but it won't go through a house wall:

I have a couple of comments about the "cut shell"
-yes it works and probably thousands of people have gotten away with it.
-if you blow up your gun then you will get your first "I told you so" from me.

Compare an unfired shell to the muzzle end of the gun barrel.  By forcing that way oversize package down the bore you are creating an incredible pressure spike that the barrel is not designed to withstand.  All 12ga guns, up to 3" chambers are SAAMI rated to 11,500 psi.  One could be tripling that pressure.  It's the same as an obstructed barrel.

Have fun.
