Baitwell/ Washdown pump
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:19:58 PM »
What was the original baitwell/washdown pump on a 1999 215 DC.  Mine is a aftermarket and isn't worth a hoot. I would like to replace it with something that works and is self priming. Not sure what the factory installed, but all the other pumps( fishwell/fresh water) are Flojets.

I think it may of been a Flojet 4305-144 but not sure. Maybe there is a better choice then the Flojet.

Roy,
Was a Flo-Jet, which is now owned by Jabsco.  Shur-flo ProBlaster 4.0 is a good one, and can be used in livewell capacities...and it won't break the bank!

I did a quick search on the Flojet 4305-144 and Shur flo 4.0 problaster and they seem to close in price. The Shur flo is actually about 20 bucks more then the Flojet.

Does the Shurflo have any advantage over the Flojet. It pumps 4.0 vs 3.5 on the Flojet, and that would be a plus for washdown, but maybe too strong for the livewell. The baitfish might not be able to handle the flow. I read where it said not to restrict the flow on the pumps, however isn't that why they have a shutoff pressure.  Also the Shur flo has a higher shutoff pressure at 50 lbs vs the 40 lbs on the Flojet.

Roy,
What I read was that restrictions can cause rapid cycling, but I did not read where it said to not reduce the flow...http://www.shurflo.com/files/Education- ... 205282.pdf

Mine's lasted 2+ years (knock on wood). Works well in my very small (17 gal) live well and seems to wash down just fine. Personally I don't catch tuna so the pressure is perfect for trout, redfish, grouper, snapper and lobster. Seems like a good fit for a 215.
How big is your well?

Just food for thought.

I have the same boat as you. I have replaced every pump in the boat with Flojets (original). I will never buy another flojet. Two of them crapped out 1 month after warranty....

I replaced with shurflo and couldn't be happier. The only thing that sucks is you have to drill more holes (mounts are different).

I believe my livewell is 25 gals. In the Shurflo line there is a Pro Blaster and a Pro Baitmaster. Is one better than the other as I will use it as a combo baitwell/washdown pump using the already installed valve.

I also found that my fishbox pump in a Flojet shower drain pump #4105-143. This is the wrong pump for a fish box. I don't know if this was replaced or just Aquasport threw in whatever they had on hand.

I replaced mine this past year. The 2004 215 DC uses the Flojet 4325-143 for the livewell/washdown.

I can't comment on the Pro Blaster. I thought its main function was a wash down pump.

I have a Bait Master. It is (claimed) designed to do both. Usually that translates into neither very well and I can tell you it isn't a fire hose wash down but it has more than enough for my 210. I can reach anywhere on the boat with sufficient pressure to wash. It also handles my live well as well (better really) as my old Rule 450. It claims to run at a lower amperage when it senses less restricted flow and is rated for continuous running in that mode. When it senses restriction, think wash hose/sprayer it draws max amps and I believe it's rated for about 15/20 minutes continual use. I never run it longer than a minute at most and the bait stays alive with little problem.

All that stated, I had never owned a pump (wash down) before so I really can't say it's the cat's ass but for my situation, it's perfect.

I never had a livewell before or washdown for for that matter. I used to do a lot of fishing back in the early 80's but we didn't have all the luxuries. We kept live bait in a cooler with a battery aerator, and added a bucket of water now and then. I am kind of excited to have a real livewell. Something that isn't in the way or sliding around on the deck. All I need is to get it working.

This is the only thing I have found that doesn't work on the boat so I'm happy about that.  It also has fresh water washdown and a sink. Now all I need is a galley.

Whenever you need to change that pump use a Jabsco Macerator pump for the fish box pump out. Once a year run some cooking oil thru the pump and it will last a long time before any service is needed. They are completely servicable.

When I get a chance I'm going to move the hoses around and hook up the current fishbox drain pump to the baitwell/washdown hoses and see if that works. If so I just need a macerator pump for the fishbox. If that is a bust I guess I need two pumps.
