245 osprey with twin 2000 Evinrude 150hp correct WOT RPM
« on: August 31, 2012, 02:39:31 PM »
I'm new to the forum so if I’m asking a question that’s already been answered please direct me to it. I recently purchased a 1998 245 osprey with twin 2000 Evinrude 150hp (Bombardier replace the original fichts). I have found a lot of answers about the boat here especially from seabob4 who is great resource. What should be the WOT RPM for this boat and engine combination?

Also any suggestion regarding why the one of the motors is charging at 16 volts at rpm's about 2200 RPMs

thanks,

Scorby

I'm sure others will chime in but I would guess if she is propped right you should see 5500-5600 RPM WOT with the boat lightly loaded.

What Bruce said.  Twins or a single (or triples/quads for that matter), the WOT RPMs should be right in the middle of the recommended range.  5200-5600?  Shoot for 5400.  Prefer to go higher than lower...

What are you at right now?

As far as the charge output, I would check the voltage at the batt at 2200, see if it coincides with the voltmeter.  If so, you are probably looking at the voltage regulator.  But only around 2200?  What does the voltmeter show at 1500?  At 4500?  Inquiring minds want to know...

Guys thanks for the help. According to volt meter on the helm the voltage is around 12 at 1000rpms and pegging the meter at 16 volts at 4000rpms. I will check the voltage at the battery as suggested when I get down to the boat on Sunday but I suspect it’s the regulator since the starboard motor volt meter stays between 12.5 to 14 volts. I read some where that the voltage regulators where prone to cold solder joints so I might take it off and inspect it as new one looks pricy.  Is there a set of schematics available for the 1998 245 osprey? I’d like to understand how the batteries and battery switch are wired.
After I get the regulator problem fixed I will do some runs at WOT to see where she ends up.  The few shake down runs I have made with boat show that she will jump up on plane with little effort and will cruse at 2900 – 3100 rpms at around 22-23 knots and at 4000 rpms she’s running around 27-28 knots

I changed out the regulator and all is well again. Have not had a chance to run the boat at WOT to check the rpm/speed but will next weekend and will report back. Does anyone out there have a schematic for a 1998 245 Osprey?
