Difference between 19-6 C/C and an Osprey 20
« on: June 27, 2012, 04:13:19 PM »
In what year did Aquasport change the name from the 19-6 Open Fisherman to the Osprey 20....
Reason asking, I've been told mine was an Osprey 20, it's a 1982 model... The specs are the same except that the Osprey 20 weights 50 lbs more dry than the 19-6......Any info is appreciated :salut:

We know they were Ospreys in 1980.

I can't find a reference from 1978 as to that name so....
http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery ... se&cat=582

1976 referred to them as CCs

1979 would appear to be the earliest (possible  ) but I'd bet 1980.

I think the 1981 model year was the first for the Osprey name.  The 1980 catalog that's referenced is for the 1981 model year. That was also the year Aquasport removed the dash from the model designation - the 22-2 became the 222, the 19-6 became the 196, etc.  Before they were called Ospreys, the 170, 196, and 222 models were just called "Open Fisherman."

Thanks guys, I must have gotten lost while looking thru the spec area on here because I couldn't find out what I was looking for, so considering that mine is a 1982 model, I assume(dangerous I know) that I have an Osprey model..the specs between the 2 are exact but for the dry weight being 50 lbs heavier for the Osprey...Thanks again :salut:

Right you are CJ. The brochure is stamped 1980 on the rear cover

But............

The text clearly addresses it as the 1981 line (mid column, first sentence).

I know that if I could read my capacity plate it would probably say the model name, but it's just a piece of aluminum basically :| , you can make out a little bit but not much  Oh well I just call mine an Osprey for the fun of it

For sake of discussion...do we know in which year the top deck (gunnel cap in these parts) was slightly raised on the 19-6 and 22-2?

Were both models changed (and raised) in the same year?

Is this a trick question?

Not a trick question at all.  I know on the 19-6's they raised the deck cap from 1976 - on.  As for the 22-2, not sure but Lewis's 83 sill has the reassessed gunnels(lower gunnel cap)

Yes it does!

Although it is modified a bit, larger splash rail and front anchor hatch.

In 1986 was the 19.6 a Osprey 200?  Mine says Osprey on the grey dash below right of the steering wheel. Im going to redo the decals and want to keep it as original and accurate as possible. Mine only has the Aquasport decal without the 200. I'm the 3rd owner and not sure if something was removed.

Well the literature we have points to the 1986 200 Osprey as having a length of 19'-6" and.....

Since the only boat I ever bought/owned new was a 1986 170 Osprey (because I could not afford the 200) and those were the two models I knew that were available at that time I'm inclined to say yes.

The large hull model (200) decal was vinyl so it may have been removed over time. I removed mine.
