Late model Aquasports and the big blue connector...
« on: July 14, 2012, 03:15:23 PM »
To all owners of later model Aquasports, from the 200s on up to the 250s, the connector pictured here on the left side of the pic is a notorious problem spot electrically, especially as the boat gets older.  This connector is the main feed for your helm power...

The connector has very large "blade" type contacts that, while the size is a good idea, loose contact with each other and create a power loss at the helm.  The wires feeding this connector are 6GA coming off the main breaker mounted aft, and 10GA out the line side feeding the helm panel.  What I do when dealing with this connector is get a GOOD 8GA butt connector, cut a couple of strands out of the end of the 6GA (won't hurt a thing) so it will fit into the butt, cut out the connector and butt the 2 wires together.  Adhesive lined heat shrink takes care of protection for the butt.

Just thought I'd put this out there.  Later model ASs, say, 2002 and later, got rid of that POS!!

Good deal Bob. Have never been a fan of connects/quick connects. Thirty years ago...Perko made a nice one, made here in the USA. Indestructible...still in use on my Jon boat.

Good thinking, good tip!
