Rubrail insert for 1999 200 Osprey
« on: June 13, 2012, 10:03:46 AM »
I'm looking at replacing the rubrail insert on the '99 200 Osprey I just got, and want to make sure I get the right one. Per other members' advice, I'm looking at Great Lakes Skipper, Taco and other sites and there are several inserts that look close. Mine is an inch wide (the outside width of the insert itself). A couple of 1" "Brunswick" models look close. Does anyone have the definitive answer on this one, about what model insert I should order and from whom? I'll try to attach a Snag-it photo from the Great Lakes Skipper page showing the one's that look close. Thanks!

Dan,
This nifty little feature from Taco, their OEM Selection Guide, gives you the exact P/N of both the extrusion (the rail itself) and the insert...http://tacomarine.com/cgi-bin/ccp51/cp- ... m_rr_guide  Just click on Aquasport, and viola, there it is.  Your's is the V21-9501.  Unfortunately, they are no longer producing the gray insert, so black or white is your choice...

I'd say that's about as definitive as it's gonna get right there. :thumleft:

Aaron,
I gotta ask you.  Who coiled the old insert up?  You or your Dad?  You don't find it that neat new in the box from Taco!! :thumleft:  :thumleft:

I think Searay has always been a Barbour Plastics user, but a lot of Barbour's stuff is nearly identical to Taco's...

That green would probably work out great on our Osprey, since it has green trim, etc. Is it hard to pull the old and slip in the new insert? Never done it....

That said, how much would it cost to ship -- plus your trouble -- 42 feet of it to Columbus, Ohio?

Hell, Dan, Aaron would probably drive it up to you!  He's got to get some seat time in his "new to him" F250!!!

Easy to pull out the old insert.  Remove the end caps from the transom ends, insert a screwdriver in the gap between the insert and the extrusion, pry out so you can grab it, then simply walk around the boat pulling it out as you go.  But, a caveat.  Older extrusion has probably dried out and you may crack it when pulling out the old insert (also stiff and dried out).  Take a heat gun and gently wave it back and forth over the insert to soften it up, about 10' at a time, it will pull out easy that way...

I'd ask Aaron to send you a foot of it first to see if it fits.  If it fits then you can discuss shipping the rest of it.   :thumleft:
