Do I need this part?
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:39:35 PM »
My brother used my boat recently, and brought it home with a part missing from my outboard (typical).  I don't know what the name of this part is.. the best I can come up with is "pisser port plug".  The part is a little plastic plug and just threads in; you can adjust the flow of water by tightening or loosening it, and I imagine it just vibrated itself out when he last ran the boat.  The motor runs fine without the plug, I just get a little trickle of water instead of the steady stream.  I asked Pops, and he doesn't know if I need it either, but thinks that maybe there's too much water flowing out of the port now which could cause the motor to overheat, but there doesn't appear to be any more water flowing out.   I think that finding this part might be tough and it would probably be way more expensive than it should be..

Anyone in the know?  Thanks

Jess, isn't that the plug that you unscrew to attach the water hose when  you want to flush the motor?

You know, I don't know Bob. I've always used the muffs to flush the motor. I think you're right though. I do know thats where the motor pees with the plug in place

Piss or pee?  Yes the PC squad has been at work here:  the proper term is "telltale" for the stream that comes out of the motor that tells you the water pump is working.

Exactly what it is. The pee port plug. Steady stream shows you're good.

I just went out and looked - the hose flush on my engine is on the port side. Duh. Some of the newer Suzuki's have the hose flush on both the rear and front of the engine. Looks like this particular port is dedicated to peeing. I haven't used my Aqua in so long, I forgot that I had been fiddling with the plug trying to get the stream to come out to the side... I may have inadvertently unscrewed the plug. I guess I'll call the dealership :(
