1999 200 Osprey
« on: June 12, 2012, 11:11:26 AM »
I found a 1999 200 Osprey in Cleveland, originally a FL boat bought at Boater's World in Ft Liquourdale, and seems to have been very well cared for, if sitting under wraps for the past six years after the owner passed away.  It's got a 1998 115 60 degree Johnson that also looks to be in decent shape but for the finish and the fact that the auto primer doesn't seem to be working. I'm looking for a new dash panel for the toggles (all gauges and accessory toggles on the original panel seem to work) and there is a section of the white rubrail insert missing that I need to deal with (any ideas: splice or replace entirely?), but other than that, the hull has the original shine, no chips and it sits on a Continental aluminum trailer (that needs one dinged-up fender replaced; are they available?). My question is, is the 50 gal tank poly or aluminum and is there any wood in the boat? It seems very dry inside and out, no deck flex anywhere and it really does appear that the previous owner (may he RIP) was meticulous in his care -- to the point of covering every screw head and surrounding every accessory mount with silicone sealant, which I am dealing with now as I remove outdated electronics brackets, etc. Think I can find an AS dash panel for that model?  Should I replace the entire rubrail? Any insight on this boat you guys can provide is very welcome. As are potential buyers for my sweet '71 170, for sale in Classified, to help fund above!

Edit: I merged these two posts (Dan beat me to it I see but you get the general idea here).

Everyone,
Daniel, a member with a 170 Aqua (up for sale in our Classified forum) has purchased a 1999 200 Osprey.

He PMed with some questions and we have spoke on the phone. Please see below some of his concerns.

Bob:

I found and bought a 1999 200 Osprey in Cleveland yesterday and just got it home last night. It looks like I will need a new dash panel for it, as the corners are cracked/broken/repaired where the screws tighten it tot he console and several of the toggle switches, while working, are missing the rubber covers. What do you recommend? I followed the threads here and see that the one marine place sells pre-cut panels for rocker switches; do you happen to know if any of those would fit a '99 200 console or will I have to go custom? Can I consider keeping the original toggles, finding new rubber covers and finding an Asport panel?

There also is a one foot section of the white rub-rail insert missing in the middle of the starboard side (!?). Do I replace the entire insert or fit one piece in there somehow? The boat also has battery selector switch under the console, but I can't find where it was originally mounted. The manual I got with the boat does not list a switch as an option with the standard model I got and thought you might know where it is supposed to be mounted.

One more thing: there is a 3/4 inch diameter hole in the bottom of the fishbox and under the inspection plate next to it is an aerator (?) pump, that I think might be there to connect through that hole to serve as the fishbox drain? Does that sound right? Why an aerator pump?

I've had the boat all of 16 hours, and these are the first of what I am sure will be many tasks I will deal with and may be asking fellow CA members about. Since you answered this similar panel replacement question, I figured I could start with you/it! As always, any advice much appreciated.

I'm hoping that the membership can help with these. I sent him a scan of his model from the 97 catalog but I'm sure others can give him additional direction and help. I've requested that he posts up pics and trust it should better define his ideas on setting up his Aqua.

Thanks in advance, to all. :thumleft:

PS.... Dan, here's a link to the troll and tabs you asked about.

Thanks Marc. :thumright:

I left Dan a voice mail requesting the pic. I had sent him the forum link with the different dash panels so he can get an idea of what they have.

Marc,
It's the rectangular one I'm sure MCL has.  Looks like this one that Wes had made for his boat, but with the bronze color AS was using back then...

Oh yeah, pretty sure they have that one.  Just the question if he wants the whole enchilada or just the panel, just the panel might be harder to find... we'll see

« Reply #7 on: June 12, 2012, 03:58:50 PM »
Here is a pix of the dash panel I am seeking, measuring 19 inches long by 5 inches high. Founderpounder, or anyone else who comes across one, please keep me in mind!

Thanks guys.

BINGO! That looks like the one. The "problem" is (and this is a good problem to have), all my gauges and switches are working and I really only need the back panel. Advice?

Another question: the 2" diameter courtesy and livewell lights are working but the lenses are yellowed, rubber cracking or gone, and looking like they are about to go. Would that place have any of those? Or, do I want to replace/upgrade with LED?

Dan
