Maiden Voyage

Finally got the boat to the point where I could get it on the water for a shakedown cruise.  I bought this boat in 2005 for $1500 with a junk motor on it.  It sat in my yard until last year when I got a trailer under it, pulled the gas tank and replaced the transom.  Although not a full rebuild like some on here, it's been a long road for me so I was psyched to finally get it in the water.  I still need to work out some bugs but it runs great.  It's a 1978 22' FF with a 96 Yamaha 200 Saltwater Series.

Nice looking boat, what did you rebuild the transom with? (wood, pour)

I used Nida Core.  Check out my thread in the rebuild forum, "22 FF Transom Rebuild".

Thanks!  I'm really pysched.  The timing is great too.  I was hoping to have it all squared away by like April or May but I got busy and I ran out of time. Our summer boating season is pretty limited up here, basically May through September.

Thanks Bill, with the prop I've got on it, I could only get 4600 at WOT but I was having some other issues with the motor so I don't know if it was reaching max rpms due to the prop or some other issue.  Basically, it ran fine at idle and up to 3000 rpms.  At 27/2800 it was doing 21-22 mph.  After 3000, it started running kinda funny.  It surged every few seconds like it was a cylinder kicking in and out.  I could get it to max out at 4600 at 35-36 mph, which is fine with me but I don't think the motor is running to full potential and/or isn't propped right.  I'll get it figured out but in the meantime it was a great milestone just to get it on the water and on a plane.  With the modified v it planes out really nice and can stay on plane at around 15 mph which is cool, but I'm sure that will come at a price as far as ride quality.  It was flat calm so I can't say how if handled other than a couple of wakes.  All in all I'm pretty psyched even though I know I still have a lot of work to do.  Thanks again for your help and guidance.

You will get her figured out :)
My 97 200  with a new Yamaha factory power head maxes out at 5500 rpms, about 42 mph, purrs like a kitten except at 3700 rpms, at that rpms sounds like crap, bring it up or down couple hundred rpms she sounds sweet, my 89 225 Exell sounded the same way at that rpm.

Got a spare prop you are more than welcome to have, but it's odd ball size, stamped 15 3/4 x 15, don't know what the heck that would be good for.
