Windshield Frame Painting
« on: June 17, 2012, 11:20:01 PM »
I'd like to paint the windshield frame on my 1979 Family Fisherman.  The frame appears to have originally been a dark or light brown, and has been painted at least once in the past as both colors are exposed now due to chipping.  I would like to give the frame a 'modern' clear-anodized-looking finish.  Any suggestions on paint products/colors that would give the finish I'm going after?

I was looking through a FF brochure http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2775&title=as-family-fisherman-series-broch-23-c1978&cat=582 and see that they offered a normal aluminum finish and also a black finished frame.
Doesn't sound like it'll be any fun to refinish.

Could always strip it, polish the aluminum frame and clearcoat it.   lot of work
Maybe pick up a can of Hammerhyde by rustoleum, kind of a different texture and appearance

Easiest would be to leave it on, sand it down, tape it off, and spray.

Just make sure to etch the aluminum before you spray for max adhesion. Your local body shop supply house will have "aluminum etch" as a substrate coat.
