Lesson Learned
« on: April 07, 2006, 12:57:19 PM »
When making a leaning post be sure and test it on the boat BEFORE painting it. It felt just fine for fit in the shop, but when I put it on the boat for a test fit it seems 2" too tall. Because I went with 3" foam instead of 1" it now seems just a tad high for my skinny butt.

It has 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of finish paint. Guess I'll cut it down and do some more painting.

Oh well.

How about extending the padding down those two inches?

Ouch.

The guy that owned my AQ was really short.  He had a wooden platform about 2" high to stand on between the seats and console.  I still have it if you want it

Thanks. I thought about a platform but realised that I keep my tackle box under the console at my feet. I went ahead and cut off 2" from the bottom. No big deal just a PITA.

Paint is now done. 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of finish. Kept the garage at 70 degrees (radiant slab heat) and the paint is hardening nicely. My special order of semi-gloss white paint still has not shown up despite ordering 10 days ago. I went with sandtone which is the same color as my deck.

Today I'll install rod holders, grab rail, aerator switch and finish the vinyl on the seat.
