Fuel milage for 225 Explorer with 200 Evinrude?
« on: May 30, 2012, 03:12:12 PM »
I have owned the boat for about a year.  Just wondering what some of you other owners of this boat and motor combo are getting fuel milage wise.

I just put a fuel flow scan on the boat but have not been able to get the boat wet since April due to my new baby boy.

I have a 245 with a 225 Johnson so my burn will be higher.  I haven't had the boat long enough to wrok up an average fuel burn yet.  I can tell you I can get about a 28-30 mph cruise and be indicating 13-15 GPH on the flowscan.  I was surprised at how much the you can lower the fuel burn by a small throttle adjustment and trim tab adjustment without loosing speed.  That gauge will pay for itself in no time!

They are well worth the money!

A 200 hp will burn around 20 gph at wide open throttle.  The in-between usage depends on a ton of variables.

although my boat is smaller and much lighter
cruise:
3500 rpm, 29.9 mph, 11.2 gph, 2.63 mpg

at WOT, 5600 rpm, 51 mph, 24.9 gph, 2.04 mpg

my gph at WOT was pretty high, but i changed sparkplugs, wires, and fixed a sticking timing advance, i now burn about 22.5 gph at wot
