Anhyone use a Humminbird thru hull transducer?
« on: April 11, 2012, 06:41:31 PM »
hi all,

I have a transom mount humminbird and I am two for two on hitting something and busting the bracket for the past two seasons.   the sound has a lot of debris and I am thinking about going to a through hull version.

Anyone have any experience with them on an aquasport?

I'm running a thru-hull dual frequency transducer on one of my boats now.  No problems with it - I'm running it low in the bow and used a 20 degree transducer to make up for the angle.  It shoots through the glass and gives a solid reading at any speed.  It's nice reading the depth under the front of the boat versus the stern.  Only negative is you lose temp reading, so I installed a separate temp sender.  Humminbird now makes one with a temp sender on a pigtail that would work well:

No side scan shoot-thrus yet.  You could try an epoxy build-up on a transom mount if you are mounting in on a flat area.  Before doing that, do a clay dam, fill it with water, stick the transducer in the "pond" and see how it works.  This is the best way to check out a transducer location before actually commiting to something that's harder to reverse.
