1978 222 deep v???

I am looking at a 1978 222 ff deep v(19 degree deadrise). I am planning to redo it as a center console. Can any one give me any info on this hull, how it performs as compared to a 12 degree semi v. My preference is the latter, but the deal on the deep v is very good. Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard!!

I am fortunate to have been on several, they are great boats. The deep V is smoother in heavy chop/ocean running. Relatively dry running hull too.

Most guys run a single 200.

In comparison to the 12 degree, they use a little more gas. They also have a greater draft.

You won't be sorry either way, keep us posted.

Don't know about the 12 degree hull but my 79 ff DV has been in some rough crap and doesn't beat the chit out of you. I run a 200 Yami 2stroke, has plenty of power, top end on GPS is around 42 mph. Had a 225 yami before this one and numbers where pretty much the same as the 200 on it now.

1.  Redo as a center console - that's been done a lot.  It works better on the 246 (in fact a 246CCC is an FF with a console).  Search some posts and you will see some examples, but here is an example of how NOT to do it:

2.  How the 20 degree compares to the 12 degree:  as stated earlier, better in rough water, but draft is 3 inches more on the 22 footer at 12" for the FF versus 9" for the Osprey.  The deep V also has higher gunwales, which many prefer.  

3.  Engine choices - most go for a 200.  It will run OK with a 150, but more is better.  The hull is rated for 245, so a 225 or 250 would be fine.  My #1 choice would be twin 115s or 125s.

I had a '78 22.2 deep v center consloe and it was great the hull is solid and handle rough water like a champ. I had a johnson 175 on it and it pushed her pretty good. I just got a '74 246 ccc that I am redoing which is like the ff with a center console it will be nice to see one that has a similar set up cause they arent that commen im noticing.

The hull is rated for 245, so a 225 or 250 would be fine.

My 79 FFV badge says the boat is rated to 249 HP. I thought that was kind of weird. Suppose I could put a 250 on it and claim it's close enough.

Currently have a 140 Tohatsu. Definitely enough, but more is better. I think 200-225 would be perfect for this boat.

As for converting to a CC, why not just buy a CC? Sounds like a headache that can be avoided.
