« on: March 29, 2012, 07:34:59 PM »
Been locked out for months. No email responses for password reset requests.

Even tried bugging Seabob over on THT.

Rich finally got it figured out.

Thanks. It was difficult to go without for a while.

Now for all those comments I missed.....

The email system is shut off on the site.  You did the right thing by emailing me directly.

Huh?

He was hinting at a disease he has been known to contract from time to time, Forum to Forum. Suggested you may have caught the same.

Tongue-in-Cheek, from Wikipedia...

Quote
Tongue-in-cheek is a phrase used as a figure of speech to imply that a statement or other production is humorously intended and it should not be taken at face value.

As my German grandfather used to say...fershtay?  And I have no clue in hell how to spell that, but it means...understand?

Ich spreche ein kleine Deutsch.  What your grandfather was saying was verstehen.  It's pronounced like "verstain."  It does mean "understand" in German.  :thumleft:

CJ,
My Grandma and Grandpa came over from Munich in 1914.  Still had that thick German accent when I was a kid.  Best I could come up with!  The other set of GPs?  Copenhagen, 5 years earlier.

Heard some interesting language as a youngster...

Danish and German are very different languages, so you probably did hear some interesting dicusssions!  Hearing all that as a child, you should be able to speak about anything!

John,
Not to de-rail...  In Chicago, when you went just a few blocks away from where you were, in any direction, you would hear different languages in the stores, on the side walks, on the train, the bus, or the subway...anything from Polish to Greek to Swedish to Spanish to any number of Slavic tongue, and then to go to Chinatown (oh man, the egg rolls and fried rice from the street food carts...)!  Sat and ate on the curb of the street...

My German Grandpa used to take us to a German restaurant on Adams, in the Loop...http://www.berghoff.com/, every couple of weeks.  All the waiters were old German men like my Grandpa, and the food was...well, to a kid, not exactly what one had in mind.  But then, as long as we ate a decent amount of whatever sausage and hot sauerkraut dish was on the plate, he'd take us over to Michigan Ave to go shopping.

My Danish Grandparents?  Came over on the RMS Lusitania.  Sunk in 1915 by the Germans.  Wonder if they ever "chatted" about that?
