Transom partial "rebuild" question.

Hey guys, I may have gone overboard here, but I hope it's worth it.

Since there were cracks where the cap/ liner meets the transom, I decided instead of doing a half-a$$ grind and fill, I would do something that will last. The transom itself is solid (suprisingly), so I just cut out the top and grinded back the edges.

My question is, what should I use to glass the transom to the cap? 1708 with mat? 2 layers? I need to build up some thickness to match the current thickness (if that makes sense). Take a look, let me know what you think.

That core looks rotten to me!

Only a little rot on the port side, used some penetrating epoxy this weekend, ship shape.

Drilled into the transom, wood is still solid.

Use plain mat for thickness. 1700 or 1708 for strength.

In what order? Do I want the 1708 on the inside, attached to the core?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner!

I would use a layer of mat first to even everything out, then a layer of 1708, or two, enough where it is getting close to being fair. then come back with the plain mat on top to fill. The mat is much more forgiving when you grind it and you can get it really smooth. If you try to grind the biaxial it can have the porcupine effect as the fibers will stick up out of the resin. Then primer and paint.
