confirming fuel in tank
« on: April 11, 2012, 05:28:12 PM »
I'm suspicious of my fuel gauge. How can I confirm weather it's functioning correctly or take an accurate sounding of the tank. Or both
 Appreciate it

you can try with a meter at the actual sending unit to get accurate full/ empty reading, American senders are about 230 ohms at low and 30 ohms at high (full).

Where is the sending unit located? How do I access?

There should be a pie plate in your cockpit floor that gives you access to the top of the tank.  (add your model boat to signature btw)  The sender should be in there.  Ground the sender lead to the tank and the gauge should peg full.

If I remember right you have a 215 explorer.  The float is in the gas tank which is more or less in the center of the boat.  The foward pie plate, just behind the seats access the top of the tank where the sending unit is.

Five bucks says it's the sender or corroded terminal connectors.
