poly resin on teak/mahogany
« on: March 16, 2012, 12:07:09 PM »
cut out the spacer/baseplate for my livewell/leanpost yesterday. used mahogany. debating between Thompsons water sealer with UV blocker. any thoughts on using a stain with UV blocker and then a coat of Poly instead? i did this to a scrap piece of teak a 2 months ago and left it floatin around on my dashboard ever since- and it shows no signs of fade or poly checking...

MAS epoxies did a thing on ship shape TV on how to do that.  I'm sure it is on their web site.

About 12 years ago the wife paid way too much money for a teak patio furniture set.  It has been a royal pain to keep looking halfway decent, mainly because it was always out in the weather.  Here we have a covered patio and it only gets sun about the first two hours of the day.  I have been thinking about giving it the MAS treatment.  If I'm lucky when it needs refinishing I'll be dead and it will be someone else's problem.

If you clean it, bleach it, then MAS it....its a done deal.

Have a mahogany elbow rail outdoors...did it with WEST UV resist hardener three years back...looks just as good now as it did  back then.

I don't know if I will ever get up the initiative to start that project.  Everything is built with slats.  Table top, four folding chairs, a folding chaise lounge.  It would be a real pain to cover all the nooks and crannies.  Heck, it's a pain to just pressure wash the stuff.

This is a stock photo but it's identical to the lounger.  The chairs are built the same, brass hardware and all.
