nocturnal visitors
« on: January 05, 2012, 08:49:04 PM »
My oldest son got me a trail camera for Christmas.  I have seen a gray fox in the daylight and a number of possums (most of them dead now) but these guys don't come out in the daylight.  It has an infrared flash so that it doesn't spook the critters.

It was under $90 at  Wal-Mart Christmas eve.
I have not tried the video functions yet.  I did not want to fill up the card.  I had a 1GB SD card on hand and have not gone out to buy a larger card.

They are getting really fancy (read expensive) with these things.  For under $500 you can get one with a built in cell phone and you just call it with your computer and download the pictures.  More than a little out of my price range.

My buddy has one of those out in the woods for deer.  So as a joke me and my friends went out in the woods and did some.... ummm unspeakable funny acts in front of the camera.    He usually checks it every other day and we were dying to see what happened.  It turns out the camera was out of memory.   Darn!

Wing- I have a similar story:
One of my buddies had a few cameras set up on his property up in southern GA... after a bonfire and a few beers (actually more than a few)... a few of the partiers decided to go moon the cameras. About a week later my buddy sends out an email to all the "guilty mooners"... behind them was a HUGE 8pt buck walking across the trail!!

JJ,

Cool photos, your gonna have a blast with this thing. I've had mine in the back yard for a while now.

I wasn't getting the flash to fire with the brightness I wanted, so I started messing around with some old electrical components

I had laying around. In a flash of inspiration I wired up my handheld FLIR unit to a rusty old flux capacitor module, which is pushing

out damn near 1.21 gigawatts of energy - and that, brother, opened up a whole new world.

I started capturing the things like you'll see in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJa1sIt2wIs

Just sayin'
