scuppers sit under water line??
« on: December 11, 2011, 08:18:16 PM »
Hello All
I have what I believe is a 19' 6" ft 1982. with a 2003 johnson 150  2stroke. long shaft 30" with a jack plate. The boat runs good, bilge is dry mostly just a little water after 5hours in the water. but my scuppers sit 1 inch below the water. If i stand in the rear she slow has water come thur the scupper. I think one of my pingpong scuppers is not sealing well.  Is the motor to heavy. people on the bow doesnt affect the boat at all. is there any thing i can do to help it. I feel like moving the scuppers up and sealing the old holes. no flex in the transome feels soild.
Thank you.

Could be a number of reasons or even a little bit of all the below
These boats never self drained very well even when new.
The jack plate puts the motor further back than stock and changed center of gravity
Wet foam in the stringers causing the boat to be heavier than when new

Can you just plug your scuppers when using the boat? that would be the easiest fix
Then some put some weight on the bow when you take out the plugs at the dock.

Any plugs you like better than others?  I will check with marine shops in FT.P

Maybe just need some newer ping pong ball plugs, there are a few variations out there, some working better than others.  BTW, you said you will check the marine stores in FT P.  are you in Ft. Pierce by chance?? UhhMmmmm where the Marine Connection Liquidators store (MCL) is located??    Thanks, and welcome aboard.  :salut:

Wow 30" shaft on a 19 6"  seems long.   I put the ball type scuppers on my 200XF and I love them.  They keep my decks nice and dry.  Get the kind that come apart for easy cleaning..

Exactly. And per CH, you could become  a "favorite member" <!-- s:thumright: -->:thumright:<!-- s:thumright: -->

Scuppers well-below waterline...and right here at Christmas...not good.

This is a common recurring issue..as Bob stated, you're not alone.  No problems, only solutions.

Please describe further your bilge, engine weight, livewell weight, age of hull, potential saturation, etc.

Thanks.

I agree! Get some new ping-pong style scuppers and your problem will be solved.

Don't relocate the scuppers.

I've put the ball scuppers on my 200CCP, but they are on the side of the boat.  When I am running, I leave huge rooster tails.  I need to find a way to accomplish the same things with a different set up.  i could use some ideas.
