Question for all you experts
« on: November 17, 2011, 09:33:49 AM »
Hey guys, just came across this one and have talked to the owner.  However, he can't tell me whether it's a modified V or flatback, and I'm not sure myself from the pics.  Anybody know?  thanks!

I am no expert at the Classic AS hull configurations, but from the pictures given, you cannot see the full transom shot, and I believe the "flatback" had a 0 degree deadrise at the transom, (no "V") to the hull at the stern?

The prow looks like a flatback. The transom does not have the cutout of one with a 12 degree deadrise. No need for the cutout since a 20 inch shaft would work. So my vote is a flatback. Also, what year is it? If its pre 72 or 73 then that would kind of answer it also.

One thing I just noticed in the second picture. The carpet looks like it is glued onto some plywood sitting on top of the original floor. This can mean only one thing, the original floor is mulch! How much does he want for it? I would think you are looking at a full restore.

Yeah he says it's a 69, I figured it's a flatback.  Asking $1000 with a serviceable trailer.

Classic 22-2 flatback - I would guess late 60's.  Rare, and getting moreso every day.  Does the price include the trailer?  If so, jump on it.  If not, negotiate a bit, but jump on it.

It will be a project - that flakeboard up front is funky.   :afro:   And she will need some work.  But I know a guy in the Clearwater area who is considering an Aquasport rebuild biz - maybe you can stir up some interest?

This is one of those classics that would bring MAJOR $$ if restored in the Tampa/St. Pete area.  You will put some $$$ into the rebuild, but compare the outcome with a new boat and you get more for less and have a little piece of history that is - priceless!

It looks just like mine.  I have a 1970 222 flatback with a 150 Johnson.  Mine is all original and still in great shape because much of its life it was used in freshwater lakes in GA.  The one you're looking at is pretty rough but like all early Aquasports have potential to be something special.

I live in Marietta.  I take my 222 to Tampa & Pensacola and use it in Altoona when I pull the kids around on the tube.  One of these days I will redo it but for now it is fine.

Where to you live?

I live in lawrenceville.

Marc and I have already talked about it so lets see what you guys think.

Lets plan a gathering around Pensacola somewhere sometime around the middle of May.
So what do you you guys think? Capt Bob are you up for it? Kraw? Gran? Fitz? John Jones? And anybody else chime in!
Maybe even our brothers over in Louisiana can make the run east.
