1990 250 CCP
« on: November 24, 2011, 12:33:27 PM »
First let me begin with a brief introductin: I'm pretty new to the forum. I have posted a couple of times but mostly lurk trying to learn as much about Aquasports as I can. Growing up my family had a 1976 19-6 FF with a 1984 Mercury blackmax. My father sold that boat about five years ago once everyone was in college and didn't have time to fish as much or take care of the boat like we did when we were younger. It was a great boat and we caught a lot of fish on the Louisiana gulf coast.

We are in the market again and have put down a deposit to reserve a 1990 250 CCP with twin 2001 Evinrude 150's. The boat has a close transom with a bracket for the engines. Below is a list of features the boat has.

IT COMES WITH TWIN EVINRUDE 150HP EFI ENGINES BUILT 2 YEARS AGO AND RUN PERFECT,

IT HAS A ALL ALUMUMIN DRIVE ON TRAILER WITH NEW BRAKES

HUMMINGBIRD MATRIX DEPTH FINDER/GPS COMBO

PERKO OUTRIGGERS UNIDEN VHF RADIO, AFFM STEREO, FIRE EXT, 8 ROD HOLDERS, NEW BATTERIES,

BENNET TRIM TABS, SEA STAR HYDRO STEERING

ALL NEW GAUGES,WIRING,CONTROLS AND CABLES 2 YEARS AGO

REAR LIVE WELL,FRESHWATER WASHDOWN SYSTEM,FRONT OF CONSOLE HAS A BAIT STATION WITH LIVE WELL,SINK AND CUTTING AREA

VERY LARGE BUILT IN FISH BOX WITH PUMP SYSTEM

AND SPRAY CURTAINS

I'm curious to hear responses from the guys on the forum about this boat. What are some of the things to look out for in regards to maintenance? Did the hulls from 1990 have open or closed cell foam? What about the gas tank? How much would you pay for a rig like this one? From the pictures I have studies, this boat looks to be in great condition. Very well maintained. All thoughts and opinions are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

My thoughts.
What year are the outboards? are they rebuilt?
If so, what was rebuilt on them?
Are there receipts on them.
A good boat mechanic could help get them sorted out and give his opinion on the quality of the pair.
Maybe pay a good mechanic to give the boat a once over?

Good luck

Hahaha. Pete you caught me. That's the boat. My father didn't want me to post a link to the boat because he was afraid someone would beat us to it. We have put money down for the seller to hold it for us so I feel a little better about not losing this boat to a more aggressive buyer. We are going over first part of next week to pick it up.

The engines are 2001 models. The seller owns a marine/repair shop. This was his personal boat. There was nothing wrong with the engines, he just went through and rebuilt them two years ago along with updating and replacing everything on the boat. I think the engine deal was more of a precautionary, peace of mind deal since it was his boat and he had the resources to do it the way he wanted it.

Welcome aboard Evan, sounds like a great boat, Doc Reed, one of our members has that same boat and it is a fishing machine for sure.

Thanks for the feedback guys. We have been looking for  a while. I sent probably 50 links in 5 emails to my father, brother and brother-in-law to different Aquasport and Mako center consoles. We were thinking a 222 CCP or a 224 or 231 Mako but when I found this one it had everything we wanted. What can we expect in terms of the foam and the fuel tank?

1990 fuel tank should be OK, but you never know...  Unless the deck has soft spots, don't worry much about the foam under the decks.  But do look for soft spots on the deck - they are the indicators of problems underneath.

Twin 150s should push her along really well!  Like others have said - check the motors out - compression, water pressure, start/stop, trim up/down, and shifting all should be ship-shape.

She looks like a nice boat, hopefully maintained well.  Have you put eyeballs on it?  The boat is in Matthews, not far from here.  Why not ask for a in-water test on Lake Norman?  I would be happy to be there and provide feedback if my schedule permits.

We have not seen it in person yet. We have only seen the pictures that were online. We have had probably five phone conversations with the seller and feel good enough about him and the boat to put money down to reserve it and drive up there with the intentions of purchasing the boat. We are trying to make the trip this coming Wednesday. We may take you up on that offer. Thanks for being willing to help out. Lake Norman is a beautiful lake. I lived in Boone, NC for a year. My favorite part of the drive form Boone to Charlotte was passing over Lake Norman. Beautiful area.
