Try this....
« on: October 22, 2011, 01:57:52 AM »
A Little Bird recently told me....

"You're drankin' whhaaaaat ??  MAKERS MARK WHISKEY ?  Sonnnnnn.....  you've trusted me before, now trust me on this: Go find yourself some George Dickle 'Old # 12 Whiskey', with the white label.... trust me, you will like it".

So I have been looking High and Low........ I think it took me 4 stores (I'm in California <spit when you say that> by God, I can find Pusser's Landing Fancy Lemon Liquor, but can I find a GollDern American Bourbon: NO!!! ).

Tonight my sweetheart says, hey-did you try that liquor store?  Low and Behold, they have it.

At home, "Darlin', fix me up a blind taste test !" says I.

"Here ya go !" says she.   No contest, Makers Mark vs. Highly Recommended George Dickel Old #12 ????????????

Survey Says.....    George Dickle, Old #12  !!!!!!

If you are a bourbon sipper like me consider the Little Bird and your own blind taste test with Old #12.

Boiled peanuts and PBR for everyone  :sunny:

Trace, glad you found it! It was my dad's fave. He mixed it with "Sun Drop" a soft drink like Mountain Dew.

Some folks mix it with ginger ale or 7-up.

Others, just straight up on the rocks, or with water.

You'll know that its time to put ol' Georgie away when you refer to him as "Dorge Jickle"

"Zatzit...Hon, we knee' more Maker Zmark", says I.

The Admiral, busy cooking something yummy, replies "What the heck are you talking about? - and are you on that dopey Aqua-SPOT (she ain't from 'round these here parts, Gov'nor...) forum again?

"Whizkey, Hon, we knee more whizkey from Cozco...Maker Zmark, 'member?"

      says she.

Thanks for the recommendation, when this bottle of Makers Mark is gone, its gone.

Although I am a bit of a Dickel fan, it's not bourbon, it's Tennessee whisky.  Dickel #12 is a special, aged and blended Tennessee Whisky:  http://www.dickel.com/en-row/Products/w ... hisky.aspx

The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits (27 C.F.R. 5) state bourbon made for consumption within the United States must meet these requirements:

Only whiskey produced in the United States can be called bourbon.
Bourbon must be made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn.
Bourbon must be aged in new, charred oak barrels.
Bourbon must be distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume).
Bourbon must be entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume).
Bourbon, like other whiskeys, must be bottled at 80 proof or more (40% alcohol by volume).
Bourbon has no minimum specified duration for its aging period, although it must be aged at least briefly. However, the following definitions and requirements apply that relate to aging periods:
Bourbon that meets the above requirements, has been aged for a minimum of two years, and has no added coloring, flavoring, or other spirits may (but is not required to) be called Straight bourbon.
Bourbon that is labeled as Straight that has been aged for a period less than four years must be labeled with the duration of its aging.
Bourbon that has an age stated on its label must be labeled with the age of the youngest whiskey in the bottle (not counting the age of any added neutral grain spirits in a Bourbon that is labeled as Blended, as neutral grain spirits are not considered whiskey under the regulations and are not required to be aged at all).

Bourbon that is labeled as Blended (or as ‘a blend’) may contain added coloring, flavoring, and other spirits (such as un-aged neutral grain spirits); however, at least 51% of such a product must be Straight Bourbon.
In practice, almost all bourbons marketed today are made from more than two-thirds corn, have been aged at least four years, and do qualify as "straight bourbon"—with or without the "straight bourbon" label.  But there is one out there, Hudson Baby Bourbon, that is only aged 3 months!!    But it's from New York...

Excellent!!

Wonder about that raspberry 'shine we enjoyed  ....I guess there are no applicable regulations, seeing as how it was distilled in the mountains of Appalachia, unknown to the Revenooers
