Agreeing or disagreeing with his policy is one thing but that is a disgrace and embarrising if you cant respect the man then respect the office he stands for.

I can guaranty you, if those same types of signs were erected 5 years ago in the same degrading style towards Bush, that dude would be sitting in a cell, wishing he'd never done that...guaranteed!

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to free speech, among other freedoms:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amen ... nstitution

We may not agree on the subject matter...but if we want to put up a billboard on private property stating anything...other than pornographic or graphically offensive material..we have the right to do so.

Same as the controversy with displaying the confederate flag in Charleston this week.

I agree...and like it or not...we are granted as citizens this inalienable right.

Would I do that?  Probably not, did I defend his right to do that?  Yes I did.  As much as I defended the rights of other individuals to blatantly display their opinions, and publicly mock our country to which they contribute nothing more than occupying a useless volume of space and creating job security for those using them in a political chess game.

Don't get me going....  :shaking2:

Sorry Marc, just had to put that out there.  I know that you, and many, many others have served our country nobly and honorably to preserve the rights and priveleges we are afforded.  It kinda sucks, though, that, regardless of whom one might speak out against in the "public" arena, they will be quickly put on a list of "those to watch"...for excersising a right afforded to them by the Constitution!

Just doesn't seem right to me...

Bob, you certainly don't owe myself or anyone else an apology, it is people like you and the rest of our band of brothers here on CAS that I think still are the majority of J. Q. Public in America, regardless of political affiliation.  We, in general believe in the same right and wrong, the gray areas are where we all get a little mixed up, but those areas aren't the main blood flow of the country, and won't derail our country.  And I believe you are correct, that guy will definitely get the attention of the Secret Service and some other organizations, right or wrong, that is also part of today's world in America, and honestly, when speaking of things like this of the Prseident's Office, probably has been for several decades... that's the Service's responsibility?

The 1st Amendment - with every blessing comes a curse.

Freedom of speech means idiots can say stupid things, but it also means smart people who say insightful things will not be banned from saying them.  The Internet is a classic example - there is so much BS out there that you could use it as fertilizer, yet the access to real and important information is priceless.

It seems most of this at a point becomes self-policed.  People begin to realize when the BS spray needs to come out versus when something might make sense and be true.

We have laws regarding false statements and defamation of character:  "Any intentional false communication, either written or spoken, that harms a person's reputation; decreases the respect, regard, or confidence in which a person is held; or induces disparaging, hostile, or disagreeable opinions or feelings against a person."  Even though it's hard to prove such a case, many have been found guilty.

So it's not a perfect system, but it's better than most other places on Earth that I've been.  'Nuff said?
