Talk to your agent who handles your homeowner's policy.  He may be able to add the boat.

I have my autos with State Farm so I went to them.  They did not make any comment about the year ('79).  I had to take it by the office and the girl took some pictures and I signed the forms.  No survey.  I got full coverage for less than $400/year.  I specifically listed $3000 worth of electronics also.  I think I estimated $13k total value for boat, motor, trailer, and electronics and she took me at my word.

Boat Insurance

I have had the best luck and rates with Allstate, Progressive, and State Farm.  Allstate and State Farm are easy to work with if you have other policies with them (homeowners, auto, etc.).  Progressive is well known for coverage in the boat, PWC, and RV areas.  You can get a rate online with progressive by going to:  www.progressive.com

One of my previous boats was a 1963 Chris-Craft Constellation Cruiser that I owned for over 20 years.  Try to get a 30+ year old wooden-hull cruiser insured!  It was insured with both State Farm and Allstate at different times.  Neither required a survey, but the insurance coverage was a declared value policy, and they did want pictures of the boat for their records.  I started out with State Farm, but switched to Allstate when State Farm raised the rates by 50% in one year.  Their comment was that they really did not want to insure old wood boats.  Allstate was very competitive and cooperative.

My 1980 Aquasport is insured with State Farm.  All they wanted was the hull ID number, year model of the boat and engine, and engine HP.  Piece of cake!

Shop around a bit and you might be surprised!  Good luck!

If you can get USAA, do it.  I have agreed value on my '81 245CCP that is at 25k, trailer at 4k and no motor currently.  Mine is $240 a year.  With the 250 yamaha on it, $260/year.  I love USAA and have all of my insurance with them.

Call Nat Italiano at Italiano Insurance in Tampa. I just got a quote from him today for a 1975 23' Mako. We did have to get a survey, but they are going to insure the boat for a replacement cost valued at about $60k.

When you call tell him that Bill Young's son suggested you contact him.
