Questions about 175 Osprey
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:16:14 PM »
Before I begin, please understand this is not a classified!
I have a 2001 175 Osprey Tournament with a 115 Johnson Ocean Pro. This boat is nice, in really excellent shape. We have used it in fresh water, garaged and lovingly cared for.

However, due to circumstances I have a couple questions.
Considering a downsize- our tow vehicle is getting old- I have not heard much about the Osprey 165. Does anyone have comments on this boat.

Our Aquasport has been a great boat and the thought of parting with it is not a happy one.
With our success with this boat over the past several years I would look toward another Aquasport.

Any thoughts on the best way to sell this boat. Several years ago we went through a broker to sell a sailboat and ended up getting a response from an ad posted at a marina.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks Bruce

Hi Bruce,
It's hard to downsize from a 175 - the only weigh about 1000lbs and  the few smaller models certainly won't weigh much less.  Doesn't take much to tow them.  You might shave a 100 lbs off if you find a old 170.

Should not  take much to tow your 175. When I towed my 170 to Ga, it hardly changed the mpg on my truck. The others reduce mpg about 5 mpg.

We tow with a2004 4-Runner. It does fine even with the hills we have here. As I mentioned  we are looking to downsize and with the 4Runner getting on we may loook to replace that. Please don't get me wrong, the As is a great boat and given the shape of ours I will hate to part with it.
Not to start a war of numbers, the 2001 brochure lists the 175 as 1850lbs dry with a 90hp. With a full tank and trailer it probabaly gets close to 2400.
One thing I have wanted to do was take it to a nearby town that has a scale and get a good weight value. Perhaps if the weather holds up I will do that this week.

I did wish some information on the 165 from any of you that have experience with one.
Thanks, Bruce

The specs can be confusing. The AS 2001 brochure lists the 175 as 1850 dry with a 90hp and the 165 as 1100 with a 50hp dry.
On reson I am considering the 165 is the 700 lb difference listed. But, beyond that I am just trying to find out from those with an ownership experience how good a boat is the 165.
Thanks, Bruce
