«

Anyone know where/who does soda blasting in the tampa area?
Otherwise I found a place to rent a soda blasting machine- they sell the media in 60lb bags, I'm just blasting the bottom paint off a 2-22, any ideas how much I'd need?
Thanks in adavance.

There was a company in Clearwater I had give me a quote. They were kinda spendy though so I didn't do it. I don't remember the name of the place. Who rents the soda blaster? Does it include a compressor? I would assume you need a 100+ CFM tow behind type of compressor.

Back atcha,
My guys are using a machine that mixes volcanic ash, water, and compressed air. They say the water eliminates the dust.
My boat is a 22-2 as well. He said if we were using soda, he would guess that it would take 4-5 sixty pound bags...depending on how thick it is.
Good luck

Agreed but....
It might be just me but I don't see any kind of hard information as to a vender/renter/contractor/phone/link/e-mail address etc.
Give me something to work with guys.
Thanks!

Wingtime, we we're talking a while back about price here v. there.
They just finished, wasn't as cheap as initially quoted. They spent 3.5 hours and charged $550.00

Sunbelt rental's- the Oldsmar location has soda blasters and the compressors needed for them for rental. The soda blaster is $230 for a day and the compressor is about $120/day (if you need it). They also carry the media/soda in 60lb bags.
If you return it in 4 hours they take 20% off.
They dont have a half day option.
I called Hammerhead and they said they just flip the boats and use a sandblaster- sounds kinda scary from everything I've read on here and other forums but I guess if whoever is doing it has the right nozzle and is experienced, it could be do-able without damaging the gel coat. Sandblasters are about 1/2 the cost of rental from what I've been quoted.

My buddy had his Grady-White sandblasted at Cut's Edge Marina in Bradenton/Palmetto. They took about half the gel coat off the bottom. We walked up and caught them while they were attempting to patch it.

Had mine blasted with the "new" substrate, volcanic ash and water.
We're less than pleased, especially for the money....quoted 200 bucks, ching-ching, went to $660. Probably another 20 hours of hand-sanding left on the bottom and sides to get her right for prep.
