Color Codes for most ignition switches and wires
« on: August 18, 2008, 06:18:25 PM »
Hey everyone I found an awesome website documenting the wiring for most brand name engines.

If you have a OMC/BRP engine (Evinrude, Johnson), go here:
http://continuouswave.com/whaler/refere ... e.html#OMC

OMC/BRP people also get an awesome page with explanations and diagrams:

For Mercury engines, go here:

For Yamaha engines, go here:

For Hondas, go here:

I can't believe you posted this just when I needed it most. One question does the OMC wiring match the Johnson 140 4 stroke motor seeing it is a Suzuki motor in a Johnson suit I'm trying to finish installing this motor.
Thank you SO much.

The original article carries a 1999-2000 year copyright. Additions appear to be circa 2006 and was first posted (I'll assume) on this Forum in 2008.
Latest update appears to be May 2011 and there are no Suzuki references but plenty of disclaimers as to accuracy. It therefore first, should be taken as a guideline rather than gospel. Should help with troubleshooting and feel free to document, support and post any discrepancy you may find.

Thank you and good luck.

I went and got a new Key set up today that cut the guess work to O.I had to cut and crimp for the neutral safety switch and the trim and tilt on the old controls but that was better than having to but a hole new control.Got everything ready to sea trial maybe tomarrow.
Thanks again for all the help.
