EPA and E15

Some interesting reading can be had if you google EPA and E15.
E15 is coming to a gas station near you very soon. Did you know that the oil companies are suing the EPA over the EPA's insistance that this fuel can be burned in vehicles going back to 2001? The oil companies are saying no older than 2007! Guess who gets blamed when vehicles older than 2007 start having problems with this crap? It sure isnt the EPA! The EPA has also said to the small engine and marine engine OEM's to basically deal with it. I usually don't pay much attention to the alarmists of the world; but we could be faced with some serious issues coming soon. The lidigation between oil and EPA is real and we're getting stuck in the middle.

That really sucks. We as consumers should have a right to choose the fuel we use based on engine application/recommendations, not what the EPA forces us to use.  Im avoiding Ethanol laced fuel in my boat and lawn equipment for as long as I can.  Luckily, there are 3 Non-Ethanol gas stations within 5-miles of me.  I spend about $0.20 cents more a gallon, or an extra $9.00 to fill my boat. To me its well worth it, plus my equipment runs much better.

With so much crap flying around about ethanol, I try and not get too caught up in all the babble. My 96 Evinrude manual as well as my 91 Yamaha manual both state that fuel mixed with ethanol to 15% is usable in the motor. Same for my 99 Trans Am.

I'm lucky in that I have installed a new fuel system in my 91 WAC and I'm going to try and deal with this nightmare as best I can. I've been running 15% corn for over two years here in Tally and has been troublesome. I'm trying to "go to school" on my experiences and hopefully reduce the obscene aggravation to a mere annoyance.  My hat's off to those members that are running older tanks and now have to switch over to "corn". Just be prepared to switch your fuel/water separator filters often.  :x

Yup I went to the new guy on the list on 54th ave and 58th street in Kenneth City/St Pete Sunday.  $4.17 for 90 octane.  The boat seemed to run MUCH better on it.

Bob you made me dig out my manual for my 97 and look,and it says(use of alcohol extended fuels is acceptable onlyif the alcohol content does not exceed 10% ethanol by volume)My2002 Yamaha kicker says the same,are you sure you read E15.

But will i use ethanol, not until i absolutly have to,and then i'm going to pray alot.

Yes i did,stopped by there 3 weeks ago and they had 93 octane non ethanol for 4.499,ouch.

As of yesterday Max was 4.059.

You are 100% right and I'm 100% (really even more) wrong.
Both my 96 Rude service manual and owner booklet clearly lists 10% ethanol by volume and 5% methanol.

What's really scary is that I can't seem to find any reference to % allowed in my 91 Yamaha manuals (only octane #).

Sad part of my post is I can't blame drinking   (maybe the lack of perhaps) on my mistake.

Guess it's an evil plot to force us to buy a new outboard, assuming they can run on even higher levels of corn squeezings.
