Engine Bog and Enricher

So I had an issue yesterday with my motor, pretty scary too.

Was out in a short period swell when some significant wind picked up yesterday. Decided to turn around  and head in to be safe. in doing so throttled back changed course and proceeded to add throttle when the motor bogged and died.

Making matters worse, earlier in the day, tried running the kicker for some bounce ball halibut and it it wouldn't kick over.

Oh , tried starting back up, put-put..nothing. !! Checked fuel, checked bulb, all good. Add throttle start, same. F@(#!!  Add choke/enricher fired right up. Made it back to port, when throttling back same thing..bog to nothing. tried a start, nothing. add choke fired up.

Back at the wash, she fired up and idled fine for a 5 minute rinse.

Motor had been run for a few hours that day with no issues. I'm thinking dirty carb, or dirty fuel line.

Thats where I would start. How old is the fuel, was it stabilized. Do you have a Racor or some other kind of water separator? Sounds like you have something causing fuel starvation or fuel contamination. Bad primer bulb can also cause this problem. Try running the engine on a 6 gallon tank with a different fuel line and new fuel and start working from there. Glad you made it home OK. Thats pretty scary having engine issues when you need them most!

I have a seperator and filter, both new this season.

The bulb is older but had pressure. If it was the bulb not sure how the choke could have helped.

Gas was new and treated, and a quarter full, 20gallons.

To me it sounds like the idle circuit as the enricher should bypass it with additional fuel. Correct?

FYI, motor is a 1996 Tohotsu M140A2, which is a 4-cylinder 2-stroke with oil injector.

Also, this seems to be an intermittent problem. When I fired it up at the wash there were no issues.

Probably going to pass on fishing this weekend and just rebuild the carbs. I'm not sure when this was done last.

Basically I'm just looking for any other possibilities I might be missing. Is there any way it could be the oil injector? I did just add oil this trip on a low tank,

Check the clamps on your fuel lines as well.  Be sure they are tight and the proper size.  A loose clamp will leak air and cause intermittent fuel starvation.
