Aluminum trailer advice
« on: November 11, 2011, 10:01:23 PM »
I know this should be in the trailer forum, but I need some help sooner than later and figured I might get a quicker response in the main forum.  My apologies to the mods for any protocol violation.  The dual axle galvanized trailer that I tow my 250ccp with has a busted suspension.  The piece that holds the rear leaf from the front axle to the forward leaf of the rear snapped.  I don't want to fix as I would rather replace with a used or new aluminum dual axle trailer.  I currently have my boat in a transient slot @ local marina and I need to get a new trailer ASAP.  The kicker...I have to head out of the country on business on Monday.  I am hoping to find a replacement next weekend.  Yeah....this weekend is out because of kids soccer and with gag season ending in Federal waters on tuesday, you know I am fishing on Sunday.

So, anyone have any recommendations on where to find a new or used trailer in Pinellas county Florida.  I am not partial to any particular brand, but if anyone has an opinion, I would welcome it.

Thanks,
JG

Thanks guys.  I have been scouring craigslist in hopes of finding used, otherwise will go new.  I used to do hi and dry, but @ $11 per foot per month vs. $60 for secure local storage, I can justify the extra cost.

Sounds like a spring hanger bracket broke.  On some trailers this is part of a replaceable section such as this:
http://www.trailerpartsdepot.com/mmNEM/Images/6057%20006.gif  But if the overall trailer is in bad shape you may be better off getting a newer one.    Paying someone to work on it for you can get spendy.  I was at a place the other day and I was shocked to hear them quote a guy over $1200 for labor and parts to replace the springs on a tandem axle trailer.

For those who don't know, Aaron works at The Harborage, just south of the Dali Museum in St. Pete.  We use to transient there when we got kicked out of The Vinoy during our dealer meetings when I was with Proline.  The Harbor Master is a good dude...

The trailer came with the boat when I bought it.  I am not a fan of galvanized, but figured I would use it til it crapped out.  I don't want to spend the money to fix knowing that there are more problems around the corner.  I suspect that I will snap the studs before the lugs ever come free and the other hardware is looking pretty rough, so time for aluminum.

Thanks,
JG

That's insane, the parts should be no more then 200 so a grand labor
