Bulk Discounts

Would it be possible for the members of Classic Aquasport to perform group purchases? For example, we could have a monthly survey on the items, the item with most votes determines that months purchase. Keep it to larger ticket items say rub rail, etc. Then we go to the producer directly. I would assume if we were to approach say Taco for RR, we could get a bulk discount, and still get a variety of styles as they would likely be agnostic regarding specific styles as it all constitutes sales.
I am very interested in this idea, please let me know your thoughts. I am willing to help in anyway I can such as speaking to vendors, surveys, etc. There are many details to this, but what do you guys think of the concept?
I would like to get the moderators involved in this if possible.

Forgive my ignorance.
Forgiven.
Just to bring you (and others who are newer members) up to speed, your idea of a group purchase has been kicked around before and with different products. None more so though than rub rail. The link I posted is just the second part of an ongoing quest to find a replacement for members older (think circa 70s) rails that would match OEM material and could be had, as you suggested, at a reduced (or at least affordable) price.
Aqua used a lot of green color rail in those days but they have also used blue/black. It turns out that between manufacture's product runs, changes in color shades and just plain old age, there is a number of "different greens" on the various models. That link (and there's more dating back if you search) shows the attempts members made in coming together on a single shade of green, lining up potential buyers (never easy) and approaching the manufacturer with a one off requested run. A lot of time and energy only to discover that the manufacturer would require a massive purchase. It would then need to be cut to individual lengths and distributed to members and somewhere along the line, funding had to be in place to get the whole thing started.
In the end (I can only hope
) it was decided that it was just too large an undertaking but the efforts of all involved (especially Scott) are to be applauded. When another member (Lewis) recently purchased an Aqua with blue rail, he created a method to refurbish the rail rather than replace it.
After reading his thread, I made my standard wise ass comment thanking him for not creating yet another "Warren Commission Report" on blue rub rail.
So there you have it. No slam on your idea, just pointing you to some of the prior shenanigans of the Forum.
It's what we do.

Should those of you need rubrail, albeit not the old "toy soldier" green (as Lewis likes to call it!), I do have an in with Taco to get RR at a good price, especially if you want to update to SS insert. But whatever Taco has, I can get it pretty cheap as opposed to what one would pay elsewhere, remember, it has to be shipped, unless you want to pick it up from me, which means you have to live pretty close to the Tampa Bay area.
Here's the rubrail I did on the doc's Talon, straight from the Taco office on Dale Mabry...
Let me know...but no "toy soldier" green, Lewis!!
