Skyway Kingfish today
« on: April 10, 2011, 11:45:14 PM »
Well after a slow day fishing I made the first catch with my new Travela rod and Diawa Saltist reel.  This big old King was a trial by fire of the new rod and reel combo!  I landed this smoker just south of the channel under the Skyway bridge.

Beauty fish!  The shipping channel is killer for all kinds of species...some big ole Jews as well!

Well done, and I take it the new rig did just fine...

Nice fish! How do you like the Saltist? I have been looking at the new Penn Torque spinner.

Here is a link to the best mack salad I have ever tried! Try it with tostitos scoops. MMM MMM!

Yeah I'm really impressed with the set up.  The Diawa Saltist spinning reel didn't even break a sweat.  I had plenty more drag available but I was afraid of pulling the hook if I did lock it down since I was using braided line.  The 53" retrieval per crank allowed me to crank in some line quick when he wasn't running.   :thumleft:
