Am I in trouble on my 85 222 CCP ???
« on: May 30, 2011, 10:09:38 AM »
I just received my Riptide 80 bow mount t/m. While installing it I noticed a void of about 1/8" between the core and the lower glass. Should I worry about that, seemed to pull up when I tightened the cap screws on the t/m.
How the h%LL do you fix this? I couldn't find a way to see if it was wet or dry rot in those little 9/32" holes. I'm using grade 8 s/s bolts and hardware and loaded the holes with 4200 in hopes it would go into the void and adhere it a little bit when it sqeezed together. My 200 lb. son walked around on it trying to see if there where any soft spots, but didn't seem that there where. This was not what I hoped for on this fine memorial day weekend.   :pale:

smitty,

Members report all the time air voids where it didn't wet-out, failed to adhere.

Don't worry about it...get momma and the kids and the chicken and the sunscreen and the tubes and go have at it

Doesn't look good, my son just started a new job and has to work every saturday for the summer....and that stinks.
maybe next year.

I used oversized s/s washers under the deck. I didn't have a pice of 1/4" s/s flat bar or I would have.

I would put tape over underside holes and fill the voids with fast-cure epoxy.  That would help keep the glass from compressing when you tighten the screws down.  Also use some big fender washers on the underside or make up a backing plate to spread the load.

Day turned out weird, It was too late to go to the salt, its about 2 hrs and lake conroe had a guy drown and the lake was full of rescue boats and divers not to mention 50,000 on lookers in boats and jet ski's. So I just stayed home, jumped in the pool and cooled my heels. But baby is ready to churn some water when our next outing comes.
