Need to repair leaking scupper on my 200CCP

Okay so on the 200, there are pretty much useless areas in the rear corners of the transom.  Inside these areas, the scuppers come through the hull just below the deck line.  One of mine is leaking so I want to fix it, but, you cant get to it from the hatch.  So, my idea is to install one of these on each side so I can get to the scuppers:

One question: do the scuppers sit on top of the deck, in a recess (depression)? If so, my only suggestion would be to get some plain thru-hulls, and mount those round Perko drain guards on the tops.

they drain from the rear corners of the deck through a open hole in a recessed thingie that has been filled with epoxy.  They go through into the hatch area (that you cannot get to from the top), through a hose and out the side of the boat.  Thats why the new hatches are needed.

I gotcha now! Maybe you could cut a hole in the bottom of that transom box, and hire a little trained monkey.... :geek:

I want to cut the hole in the box and fix the scupper, then install the door to fill the hole.  I am also looking at some storage boxes for the hole's as well.

I had a boat once that had removable drop-in poly transom boxes, you just opened the hatch and lifted them out to access the bilge. It worked pretty cool.

Wonder if a place like "Spacesavers" would have something similar...

My experience with the CCP cockpit drains is they clog from time to time. On more than one occasion I've had the run a "snake" through them to get them to function. That flapper is just one more thing to restrict flow.

Although they are mounted vertically, the Perko drain guards described would work well to keep out debris as Bob advises.

Guess they're still available. They were OEM on Pursuits in the late nineties. Round chrome-on-brass, vertical slits. Quality product. You would want to run the slits up and down.

Mike, given the position of the drains above the deck, flooding shouldn't be an issue. Not like they're transom mounted near the waterline.

Was there an issue with water intrusion through those scuppers in the past?

I have none.
The plugs work great for my style of boating/fishing. If you're getting water in the cockpit from other sources (waves, rain) then maybe the scupper thru hull is the answer.

It appears you can change the scupper (rubber disc) assembly outside the hull without removing the thru hull so that is a plus and you can always remove the rubber scupper if you find it doesn't drain as well.
Couldn't hurt to try.

Yeah, we get a considerable amount of intrusion onto the deck when I get my big butt in the rear of the boat.  I ordered a set of the flow-max ball scuppers from th marine.  When they get here with the new hatch doors, i will begin working on them.  The real problem with the current scuppers is the leak at one of the hose connections.  I figured if I was going to fix the leak, I might as well fix the whole thing at once.  I did see the deck drains with the slots and holes that act as a screen, I may be looking at that when I begin the repairs as well.  

My next project?  Start saving for the trim tabs.  Oh yeah, and deciding if I going to make a set of insulated tubs to slide into the hatches on the stern.  I had a dream last night about making a set and then insulating them for dead bait boxes.  Just think, one on each side of the boat.  I'm kinda liking the idea!  And to top it off, I'm still thinking about how to make a live well for the back of the CCP's as you and JD talked about.

Hatches will look good under those rod holders Mike.  Might have to re-locate the washdown pump.  Still say that you can use those hatches to your advantage.  You could fabricate something in there to give yourself extra storage.

Mike - that drain hose is in a tough spot!  However, the scuppers with the rubber flapper don't work so well on side outlets.  They are designed for a stern/transom application. The hatch idea would work, as would installing a removeable pie-plate to gain access to the area.
