Seems like I remember the high teens when I was around 12-13.  Maybe around .30 when I started driving.  I could fill up my VW bug for $2-$3.

I also remember when they would not sell you more than 5 gallons at a time in the early 70's.  Sucked when I was stationed in Montana and trying to drive 2300 mi. to Alabama on leave.  We spent a lot of time stopping for gas.

Maggie and I are sort of like those "city" people, we go out daily to the market (Publix)...

That will stop.  Since I work at home, there is no need.  Going to stock up starting tomorrow... :thumleft:

My Dad had a Tenneco Station in Americus, GA. when I was a teenager in 1962. He sold gas for $ 0.199 and cigs for $0.25 a
pack. Wish we could get 5 gal for a dollar instead of only a quart.

OOOOOOOOOH MY IS RIGHT. In 1964, I remember when gas at 19.9 cents, gas wars that went crazy low, smokes could be bought for 3 for a nickel or 25 cents a pack. Buying beer from a vending machine for a quarter and don't get caught @ 17.
My 1st new 70 Chevy pickup was 3,100.00, a corvete or caddy was 4,500.00. My 1st house was 9,800.00 and it took 2 people to carry out 10.00 worth of groceries. Movies and a bag of popocorn was 25 cents and my hourly wage was 3.25 hour as a journeyman ironworker.
OOOOOOH my !!!!!!!! Since then, the trip to the moon, a man wasn't the only thing headed there!!!

And the money stayed here. We actually made things. No border wars. No terror threats. No three-front wars. Low taxes. No HIV. No crack or meth.

Oh my indeed.

You know guys its all relative... We like to think about the good ole days; I think the things we remember most that life was alot simpler and a lot more predicable. 50 years ago 2/3 of the world was still using oxes, mules and horses for transportation. You died in a head on crash at 50 mph; now you walk away.  A diagnosis of cancer was truly a death sentence; now you have a chance. We were dumping PCB's, solvents, our industrial waste right in our backyards with little regard for the consequences, now we know better. The plus side was; our children/us were raised by our stay at home moms with good values while our dads/we went to work, saved for that new refrigerator, education, a new roof on the house and knew that the companies we worked for, for 25-35 years were going to provide a reasonable pension, health insurance till the end. We wrote a hand written letter to our sweethearts about our feelings, licked the  2 cent stamp and dropped it in the mailbox instead of hit send on our computers. I`m 50 now, so I've got to live in both worlds. Oh my! has the world changed. For better worse its the world we live in and we will adapt as it changes. Maybe our attraction to the past is reflected in our desire to own an old Aquasport, Chevelle, etc, whatever takes us back to the comfort zone. I know when I'm running down the ICW in my old 22-2, I am in a different world and will continue to make sacrifices to support that feeling; it keeps me from getting old. I know some of you guys feel the same way...
