Repower, 215 DC with Yamaha F250
« on: February 25, 2011, 11:01:49 AM »
Well its just  that time.  Im considering going from my Rude 225 to a new F250 but are a little concerned about the extra say 100 lbs of extra weight with the Yami.

Anybody repowered or are running a F250 on a 215 DC?

This is what I'd do.

What's the HP rating for your 215?
Let's pretend it's 300 HP.
http://www.iboats.com/Aquasport____1999/bp/63b3957r2

Google a 1999 150 Rude and find its weight.  I'd guess  about 375 lbs+/-   Double it.

Now how does that compare to the Yamaha's 560+ lbs.?

I say use the 150 (if of course its rating is 300hp) because I don't think OMC made a 300hp that year but then I'm rarely correct on this boating stuff.

Just a guess.

PS......From an engineering view (not a boat builder's) the twins weight is somewhat more evenly distributed across the transom but I doubt it matters that much if your transom is sound.

Well my 225 is 506 lbs and the F250 is rite at 600 lbs.

I know I  will not have the 20 or so pounds of  the oil tank weight.

Im pretty  sure its  rated for 300 HP. If its street legal for a 225 I am not real concerned about a 25 HP increase.

Do the 4 strokes stated weight  include a full tank of oil ?

I would guess engine weights are "dry". As in, no lubricants.

ETEC 150HP = 430lbs

ETEC 300HP = 530lbs

Yamaha or Suzuki 300HP is 600lbs

Dunno about Optimax's, just know they're heavy too.

stated engine weight is "dry", so figure weight of 6qts of oil = approx. 11lbs

Am considering  a repower from Rude 225 to a Yami F250

500 lbs now to 600 lbs with F250

Anybody have this setup ? Im concerned about the extra weight of the 4 banger.

Any problems with the rear scuppers taking on more water because of the additional weight ?

Will the stern sit 1/2 inch or say 1 inch lower ?

You could put a couple sandbags equal to the 100 lbs on the cowling of your existing engine and see how she sits in the water.  Then climb aboard and walk to the back of the boat and see what happens - maybe bring a buddy or 2.

215 DC with F250

Still looking for anybody with this setup. Re powering.

My latest concern is whether there is enough space in the rear motor well area with the stainless, grab rail, that will allow for the larger F250 to fully trim up .

Is there enough room for the larger F250 4 banger ?

An easy, accurate, quick test. Anything to equate weight where she hangs. Three 5 gallon buckets of water stacked at the engine would suffice.

The ability for the new motor to fully tilt upward is based upon her overall length...that is, will she fully tilt to rest position without banging her head on an existing internal wall, fold-down splashwell, etc.

Would check an installed sample, and compare to the room you have. Careful measurements.  Always best to view/observe an install. Hope this helps.

Yea well thats my prob. The 215 DC has a stainless rail around the motor well and the F250 is a a much larger engine than the 225 Rude than I have been runnin. Ive taken measurements of the F250 top side but with the angle of tilt, its hard to tell if it will trim all the way up.....????

Best  case is somebody that has a 215 DC with a F250.................

Yea, gotcha SB.

Just wish  I  could  find somebody that has, or knows  if  the  F250  will   "fit" on the 215 DC........
