1982 17' Osprey
« on: March 09, 2011, 03:32:47 PM »
Let me start by saying I have gained some much needed info from this site about the Aquasport breed, but I still would like like to know as much as possible about what I have! I am looking for info on max passengers  or max weight and max hp now I will say this I have noticed a bunch of 90-115 hp boats on the 17's and 175's I do believe that this is a 17 Osprey to the best of my knowledge and that's going by the tape measure and the title. Now I do want the boat to s@#t and get but at the same time I don't want to back to the future (That's what I have my grandfathers Rinker with the BIG Block for!) I will post pics in a bit!

Ok I just got off the phone with my buddy in GA and he has a 140 Evinrude that I know runs like a top because I have ran this motor on the back a 17 McKee craft,  does anyone think a 140 would bee too much for the 17? Now this motor only has 36 hours since the rebuild and 30 of them were by me!  My price to me only out the door with controls & wire harness $600

For that deal, buy the engine and swap the stickers on the cowling if you are worried.  The boat should perform fine.  I would think mid 40s.  Let us know how it goes.

dont know if it helps but i have a 1976 johnson 135 v4 it is not to much. it runs in the low 40's but it has a worn prop so i think with a new ss prop she would do 45.

Heck no. Those old OMC's were light. Plus, you know the history. And for 600 bucks.... :salut:

Looking back  I never mentioned that I only paid $300 for the boat I think I got a hell of a deal, the trailer is shot the axle is good so I might keep it and sell it or trade? Well let me see if I can get some pics up here!

Well its gonna be 3-4 weeks before I can get to do any work on my 17!

Thanks Capt. Bob  I have not had much time to figure out the pic thing but the big pic of the  C.C. is not mine but that's what I intend to end up looking something kinda like that!
