washdown/livewell setups?

If you may have noticed, I never mentioned the word "seacock".  That is because this is not a seacock install, it is a scoop strainer pickup with a shut-off valve attached.  That is the way 95% of builders install pickups, even the Gradys and Pursuits.  YF will probably do true seacocks, my buddy BlackfinMike's 29 Blackfin up in Long Island has them, but they are a rarity.  It is the PROPER install, it's just not done that often.  The main reason is the cost, simple as that.  And although it may have made the orientation of the various fittings easier, along with getting them tight, a little simulation on my workbench got everything the way I wanted it.  I simply needed to transfer what was on the bench to the boat...

On to the second question, one pump versus two.  Livewell pumps, washdown/fresh water pumps, they have a different purpose, and therefore are designed differently.  Livewell pumps are designed to run continuously, washdown pumps designed for intermittant use.  I just believe in using the proper pump for the proper application.  After all, they are not that much money, compared to the grand scheme of things...

That's my concern with the Baitmaster but the the people at Shurflo contend that it is a continuous duty pump that operates at a lower pressure (by sensing the pressure drop in the continuous flow of a well) for the bait and increases the pressure when it senses the flow restriction as in a hose with a trigger nozzle. It then increases the pump pressure. This is not supposed to damage the pump because of the fact that wash downs run short cycles (the manufacturer states twenty minutes or less to protect pump). It will be interesting to see if it does either mode well but I just had to try.
I'll probably end up with dead bait and a dirty boat but...

This is the set up I bought for the Osprey because the boat is already rigged with the dual valve set up for washdown/livewell.  I researched a bit, and this pump's spec's state that it is rated for continuous duty as a livewell pump.  So far no problems, and it will shoot a 15ft solid stream of water out for washdown purposes, and really moves the water in the livewell.

I would get the Johnson pumps 5.0 Gal/min pump for the raw water - works beautifully for the washdown.  Can buy it as a washdown set from West. I have one of those in the 230 for raw water wash and I have a 3.2 Shureflo (I think) for the freshwater side.
A member here turned me onto using that Johnson model and he was right on the mark.

Funny, Rick, at PL, we had stacks of Johnson pumps in the parts recovery room...all failed, and warranty returns...
