Seabob - Construction Question
« on: January 07, 2013, 11:33:45 AM »
I have a 99' Aquasport 215 DC.  I would like to move the helm seat pedestal.  How is the pedestal mounted to the deck, Are they screws or bolts?

Is there anyway to access the bolts?  My boat is over 2 hours away so I cant check.  If I remove the rod box can I reach them?

Whats the story on the lounge, I have that option?

On the bolts?  Doubt it, even removing the rod pocket.  Basically, those pedestals were installed with a "permanancy" in mind...

So, anyway.  We had a 215 that was supposed to get a lounge seat, but G.G. Schmitt was late in delivery, the boat HAD to be decked...and that beetch needed to be t/bolted.  So they deck the boat.  Lounge seat comes in a couple days later.  The "brilliant" supervisor calls over the lead man in sub-assy to install the seat.  Going to use toggles, which required 1/2" holes.  The lead man drills the holes (can't remember how many)...through the cockpit sole AND through the plastic fuel tank!!!  Gee, wonder what else this is I'm hitting!!!  They didn't find out until the boat was at final QC and the tank was pressurized...or at least they TRIED to pressurize it!!!  Probably the ONLY 215 DC that actually has a tank hatch, as my friend Mariano had to cut out the floor so they could change out tanks...

That supervisor, Richard DiCarlo...lord, talk about the deer in the headlights look.  Never forget him.  One day my buddy, playing a little trick on him, says, "Richard, you need to go take a look at that boat over there".  Richard says, "Which boat?"  Jim says, "The white one."   A completely blank look comes over Richard's face, he looks TOTALLY lost, then says, "They're all white."  Well, DUH!!!!

I hate when I stand to drive and the seat hits me in the back of the legs.  I have the slider adjusted as far back as she can go.  I thinking of a couple of different options. 1) Flip up bolster seat.  2) Custom Leaning Post that will also provide a back for the livewell seat.  3) mount the seat over the livewell.

Not my boat, I just pulled the picture off the internet and did the drawing with paint.

Wow!  That is a first on FF location!!!  And, yes, I used to slide my skinny-a$$ inside that starboard door and wire that helm...

Nothing like a half-post. You free up a lot of room too.

I think in the end I'll probably have a leaning post made.  No one ever sits on the livewell seat but if there was a back rest they might.  I got quotes from $600-750 for the post the way I designed it.

The way you designed it looks nice.

You may want to consider having the front cushion flip up with a tray underneath....good quick storage for cell phones, keys, lotion, stuff, etc. Should be pretty dry too.
