22.2 vs. 22.5??
« on: December 15, 2005, 04:46:43 PM »
What's the hull and/or lay-out difference between the 22.2 & 22.5.  Especially interested in ~1974 vintage.

I can't say I've ever seen a 22.5.  Have you actually seen the hull itself that says "22.5"?  Or is this someone's classification on the boat?  Lot's of people screw up the 22.2 thing.

Flatbacks, Mod Vee's 22.2

Deep Vee's 222

Even the Sandpipers (dual consoles) were still 22.2's.  I believe the Express Fishermen were 222's.  There was a 24.6, but that's a whole other beast.

You read my mind...

Here's what the local ad says:

22.5' AQUASPORT CENTER CONSOLE, 1974, 1990 outboard mercury, 200hp

Left me scratching my head too. My guess & hope is that he took a tape measure and came up with 22.5' on a 222 hull.

Called & asked for pictures which he said he'll send along.  If it looks interesting, whatever it is, I'll shoot over for a look.  In any case, I'll post any pictures he sends.  He said he'd sell the hull only.  It's the hull I want.  Motors can be had anytime.

Over the last few months or so I've seen fewer & fewer 222's for sale or auction.  Lord knows I've got enough on my plate, but if this is for real and isn't a wreck I'll grab it for an '06 project.

Hey JimCT long time no speak,

As far as my research goes, there was never a 22.5 made at all and certainly not during that first period.  In 1974, there was only one outboard model made by Aquasport in the 22.2 line - that was a modified vee designed by the original Aquasport designer Sargent.  An inboard or inboard/ outboard 22.2 was also available that year, in the new Walters design. As of 1975, only the Walters design was available, but also in an outboard version.

Hi steved!

Hope all's been well for you & yours this year.

Thanks for the info. on the "22.5'".  We'll see what this turns out to be when I get the pictures...

You use your boat much this summer? Heard anything from Andrea?
