I Bought A Boat, But........
« on: May 07, 2006, 08:27:43 AM »
It ain't an Aquasport. I bought a late 1970's Mako powered by a 2002 150hp Johnson and it has 1996 Magic trailer. This thing must move :!:  The motor looks like an absoute animal on the back of this thing. One thing I can't understand though is that the person before installed a fishfinder right in front of the throttle so you can't fully open up the motor. I plan on leaving it like this though since I have no need to do 50mph in this boat. But then again.......... Overall I think the Mako is just as good as the Aquasport. In fact, I think they are litteraly the same boat just more dressed up. The boat needs a good amount of cosmetic stuff done to it, but what boat doesn't? When I get the boat tommorow I will post pictures in my gallery for those that like care.

You can't go wrong with a classic Mako.  Good choice!

Don't worry, you can't get rid a me  . I got pushed back to picking it up today. I am scheduled to pick it up in a half an hour (it's only 15 minutes away). Will try to post pics but it is pouring outside right now in Boston Area and is supposed to keep going all week. What a teaser. I have the boat but have to wait like a week before I can work on it :( . That's all right. It will give me time to figure out what the heck it is I'm go'in to do.

Should I keep the name or switch to Mr. Mako?

Picked it up at 5 pm and drove back home. It was poring out so I had to put it right in the garage which prevented me from getting soem good shots. I managed to get some pics of the interior though. Overall it is going to be worth the effort and will be a heck of a boat. Do you AS enthusiasts mind me posting my Mako pics here or do I get the OK?  I can't wait to try out the boat with the 150 on the back. Hit the throttle and burn some gas  .  Any ideas on what to do with all the cosmetic stuff on the transom? Pics are in my gallery.

Be interesting to see the boat.  Once you're in the "family" you can't get out!

Nice looking boat and it's nice to see the differences between the manufacturers.  I see we're going to be seeing some more acrylic windshield spam on this board again   .  One thing I see that I think is odd is that Mako did not give you a place to store your rods UNDER the cap.  I would think the rods on the side of the liner would be in the way.
Just my $.02.

I fully agree with this. That and that there is no front locker storage are really the only downsides. I do like the big console though.
