97-03 Aquasport 215DC
« on: November 25, 2010, 01:16:28 PM »
I'm looking for a 97-03 Aquasport 215 DC to replace my 79' Wellcraft V-20.  I basically want something newer with forward seating and the Aquasport looks like it fits the bill.  I'm aware of the fish box drainage problem, but on another forum someone mentioned that they are a wet ride.  He actually went as fas as to say it was the wettest boat he has ever been on.  What can I expect from this hull in terms of performance with a 225?  I boat predominately in the Delaware Bay and inshore.

I've had many passengers comment on how dry a boat mine is. It's the '97 225 Osprey, but I'd have to imagine a 215 from the same year would not be much wetter.

Make sure you sea trial it before you buy, then you'll know for sure.  :!:

"Wet" is a hard thing to put a finger on.  There are so many variables to make or break a boats reputation on this.  Wind direction vs direction of travel, wave direction vs direction of travel, size of waves, combination of wind, waves and direction of travel, etc.  Try going into a quartering sea with the wind coming from the same direction as the waves and you have to go in that direction - WET.

I would say all boats can be wet give one or more of the above, unless it is fully enclosed.

Both my boats are Wet ..... and Dry....

BTW I my 81 200 XF is a very dry ride.   As previously mentioned sea and wind directions can be a factor for any boat.

Were they calling the bow rider models Osprey's in 2003?  Thought the Osprey was just the center consoles.

They were called the 215 Osprey Sport. Only length they made, I believe.

Never liked the "dual console" moniker.  Growing up we knew that style hull as you stated, a bow rider or a walk through (as opposed to walkarounds). Not the Aquas though, they had the name.

Certainly understand the need for trade from the V-20. Family concerns, ease of use, need of use, etc.

Don't give away the V-20 hull however...they have a cult-following here in eastern Carolina, will bring top-dollar.

Don't know the reasons why (other than the obvious)  but fact is, very strong following here.

Shoot a pm if can help.

Virtually all boats can lay claim to "the wettest boat I've ever been on" given the right, or the wrong conditions.  It's unfortunate that some people will have ONE outing on a boat, on a particularly snotty day, and base there "opinions" on that singular outing...then jump in on a forum thread (most likely THT) and spread the misinformation.  Grrrrr...

I've always preferred the style of the mid- to late 90's 215DC over the re-styled 215 Osprey Sport.  The Osprey Sport has a sort of "Euro Transom", which, of course, robs the cockpit of much needed room.  And that port console was big enough (with a little re-engineering to the opening) for an enclosed head.  And that in floor storage area between the consoles could hold a ton of gear...

Hello, just bought a 2003 Aquasport Osprey Sport 215 with a 225 h.p. Yamaha top speed on mine is 40mph fully loaded, but I have noticed all of my floor storage are half full of water I am working with dealer on this as of now. I hope I did not get a lemon. first trip in the boat and half full of water in storage, and I was so worried about the motor, Please if you buy one you must take it out on the water and then when the boat is on the trailer get a magna fying glass and go over it. make sure the storage compartments are dry.oh the ride was dry in 20mph wind and three foot seas as for my face behind the wheel, now below my feet is a different story.

have you traced the drain hose for the compartment to its matching thruhull?

the two fish boxes and the so called ski storage compartment are half full of water, I have seen in the stern of the boat a valve coming from the bottom of the boat and also what is that grey three handle valve. I hope someone can help me the fish boxes do they have pumps on them and ski storage does it have a pump.

If it's on top of a thru hull fitting then that would be a "seacock".

It may look something like this.

As far as a "three handle valve", maybe you mean a 3 way valve. That would let you divert water to two different things (think bait well, raw water washdown). That is if you have those things on your boat.

Really, this will be better answered by Bob aka seabob4.

Pics would really help your cause so members can see what you're talking about and get you the right info rather than just a guess, especially for those who own the same model.
