Tackle Center for the 245 Osprey
« on: November 02, 2010, 02:18:06 PM »
It's been touched on in some other posts, but was wondering what some of you have installed for tackle organization, where it's located on the boat etc... looking to organize, but trying to stay out of the console, I like the room in there?  Thanks

Just my $0.02 but over the years I have been on many boats with tackle centers.  Every single one was either full of junk or the tackle was rusted beyond use.

I second that emotion. Only thing would add is that a poly knife/plier/ etc. holder is handy and functional.....just keep it behind the splashwell so that nets/knees etc., won't get caught up in it.

Big thing in many places is to use these soft-sided storage bags like the bass guys use, and set up individual boxes for whatever you're hunting that day. That way, your pricey tackle isn't 24-7 in the salt air/condensation, etc.

And as JJ said, just my $.02.

I use a big soft sided bag with a hard bottom.  The soft bottom bags don't last a year and will not keep water from soaking in.  Replace what ever boxes come in it with the Plano boxes that have the rubber o-ring seal.  They aren't perfect but they mostly keep the spray out.  The Z-Rust chips and competitors seem to help keep corrosion down.  Never put used tackle back in the box without washing and allowing to dry.

I know you probably know some of this but I'm bored today.  ;)

I fish off the bow of my boat a good bit, so I installed one of the flush-mount tackle centers on each side at the bow - I really like them and I have 2 soft-side bags for extra 360 Plano boxes.  I change out the ones up front depending on what I'm fishing for or where I'm fishing (salt vs. fresh, etc.).

Thanks, all good advice, the small bag and plano's and a square 5 gal. bucket with plano's is what I do now, maybe I will loook at a bigger hard bottom bag as mentioned, I know what you mean about a nasty mess in the tackle centers, my last boat had a real old one with a wooden frame, and drawers, no plano's would fit, and it was terrible. Just kickin ideas around in my head.

Me too JJ....

Guys, I've fished on a lot of boats over the years, and John has "Gone Fission" rigged out right. A lot of thought involved with her, and by cutting the foam out outboard of the stringers opened up a bunch of room under the sole for rod storage, etc.

John, did you ever post a pic of that big hatch on the starboard side...can't remember....but sweet.

FP, we crossed posts....the bag idea is hard to beat!

Marc,I have tossed this same idea around, seabob came up with a good spot in front of the console seat in the deck step dead space, but I like to bring my tackle inside to make rigs etc,the soft bags with plano boxes work best for me,I keep my trolling rigs in one  those  blue mesh holders with all the pockets that way they dont get tangled and after rinsing they will dry nicely.tried using the tackle drawers above the battery acsess hatch, everything just rusted,I use them for sinkers, they are handy in there, dont rust, and don't weigh down my tackle bag.

one of the tackle storage items I find very handy is one of these

http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-E ... 18/-632297

you can make rigs up ahead of time put them1 or 2 in the individual bags and they are ready to go when you need them,no tieing on hooks and swivels when the fish are biting.and I use a 12 pouch version of one of these to store my trolling rigs.easy to keep them separate and it is mesh so they dry out
 nice.

:thumright:

I use the tackle binders as well.  I have one with my pre-made king stingers and one with tarpon leaders.  A third one has grouper and snapper dropper loop (chicken) rigs.  They are handy when the bite is hot.

im around all different kinds of boats all day long, theres only 3 boats that i have seen in our high and dry that had an organized tackle storage, a 36 contender, a 36 yellowfin, and a 33 palmetto. all 3 of those boats where fully outfitted for alot of tournament fishing... all the other boats are filled with old and rusted junk that looks like its been in there for more than a couple years
