No thermostats in this one, FIL took them out years ago. Two stoke outboards run their best when functioning at a given temperature range. That range is controlled by the thermostats. JohnyRudes are notorious for poor running when cold as well as hot. You can run it any way you desire but for best performance you need the proper range thermostats installed. Another thing to think about is the water temperature in NC. Might be just a little cooler than Fla. temps. I'm having a fun time with this old boat.
