Deck paint suggestions?
« on: February 10, 2011, 11:25:59 AM »
Once I get the recore done on the gas tank hatch, was going to do something to spruce the deck up on this 222 CCP.  Not quite sure what the color was for the mid 80's Aquasports.  Looks to be a blueish color of some sort.  Had thought about going with a white but I kind of like the deck color.  Has anyone found a close match for this deck color?

Did not really want to get into something very time consuming, but wanted to improve the look of the deck.  My plan will be to roll the deck and not spray.  Just looking for some suggestions as far as what kind of paint to use, deck preparation, etc.  I still have the original diamond pattern in the gel coat which has bad spider webbing from the console forward.  I do realize that unless you grind the cracks and fill them that they might come back.  Anything will be an improvement at this point. Want to keep the diamond pattern.

Just looking for some thoughts and or suggestions.  Thanks!

Here is a picture of the deck color.  Very common on most Aquasports in the mid 80's

Here is another that shows the spider webbing near the foot of the t-top

I used Pettit Easypoxy on my decks.  My non skid pattern was covered up by paint from a PO so I added some non skid compound to the paint and rolled it on.  This is the second deck I have painted with the Easypoxy and it is holding up great.  There were some spots on the deck that were not non skid I just applied the paint normally there.  It's nice and shiny in those locations.

Interlux also makes a topside paint called Brightside I believe.  They also make a two part topside paint as well.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I forgot but Gonefission sent me this link a month or two ago that I forgot about.  I could sand the decks down and apply this stuff and this looks like a good non skid as well.  Here is what Gonefission sent me:

Kiwigrip... easiest stuff I have seen, and it's non-toxic easy cleanup.
