Fun with trim/tilt units
« on: October 14, 2010, 08:25:12 AM »
Trim motor went out so I'm doing my first repair on the boat. There is always one bolt to give you trouble. I did several heat and cool cycles and various other things I've tried in the past but this one isn't budging. Taking it to a friend's welding shop on Saturday to use some "real" heat and possibly weld another bolt onto the end of this one. we will succeed.

PB Blaster ain't gonna help that one along!  If all else fails, drill out the center, drill oversized and tap for a heli-coil...

We tried everything, it would not come out. Heli-coil it is.

In aerospace, all aluminum frames/chassis/missile skins, etc., we used them by the millions...
