I have a 22.2 1970.......as RPM increases, the boat starts to list to port. I have tried adjusting the zinc fin on top of the prop (2003 Mercury salt water 125). The trim seems to help a little, but something else seems wrong..........anyone have any ideas?? I would appreciated it.

Hey dennis16,

The simplest explaination would be water trapped in the hull.  Any chance of that?  What is the overall preformance of the boat?  Is it sluggish getting up on a plane?  Have you tried any other props?  Have you looked at the bottom of the hull for damage like stringer separation?

Presumably your motor is right-handed (as opposed to counter-rotating).  This produces a port list (but it should be very slight). If it is significant, it may be that your motor is mounted too low on the transom and as the bow raises up on plane the twist to port increases dramatically.

I just put a hydrofoil on my 200 Mariner (on my 1982 222 ccp) and started to notice an increase in the port list at higher speeds/ rpms.  I keep the boat in the water but when I pull her out at the end of the season, I am going to move the motor up one notch on the mount and that should do it (at least that is what my motor mechanic affirms). Take it for what it's worth.

My 222 also lists to port at some higher speeds. It did so before and after my transom rebuild. Trim tabs are the answer. In my humble opinion they are a must on the 222. Getting the bow down ertainly softens the ride and it is easy to level the boat!

I too noticed a hull list, but only after going from the four banger Suzuki 2  DT140 to the V-6 175 Black Max.  I think it's a case of a little too much torque in my instance.  I'm planning tabs, but since the lines are going through the transom baitwells, they'll be Lencos, hydraulics and bait don't mix.  I'm hoping to not regret that decision.  I really would prefer Bennetts (specifically their customer service), but considering this application, I'm sort of stuck.

torque probably.  Tabs are the answer.

Radioshop-Did you check with TabMan?  I seem to remember one can order actuators with external lines.  (I took the baitwells off and added a real one up front.)

Several years ago with twin Johnrude 70's(no t and t ) the list induced by torque was aggravated with transom baitwells filling unevenly. In 1996 I upgraded to twin Merc 115's, filled the baitwells with foam to offset the weight difference and can, of course , trim out the list with the motors.
