Steering cable for '86 as osprey 200

New to the forum, seems like a great resource. My brother and I just got this boat and it seems to be in solid shape, aside from the steering cable needing to be replaced. My neighbor helped disconnect it from the motor but it's still hooked up to the the wheel. Any tricks to disconnecting it there and then any suggestions for hooking up the replacement? Also any idea on the specs of the cable we'll need for this boat? Thanks a lot for taking a look.

If'n I remember right, you need a 16' cable.  How about some pics so we know what we're lookin' at?

There should be 2 bolts that retain the cable in the helm where it enters.  Remove these, then back the cable out of the helm using the wheel...

If I remember right mine just had a big cotter pin to pull and then the cable would come out - been a long time though.

Rick, that would be the Safe-T QC helm.  Wonder which one he has?
