Dodger for a 170
« on: May 09, 2010, 08:36:16 PM »
Hey all.  The misses and I have our first kiddo on the way.  He is due at the end of July.  We have been thinking of getting a dodger for the front of our boat to provide some shade.  We already have a blue bimini.  But more is better I guess.  I have seen pictures from ads of 170s with dodgers.  I was just wondering if anyone has insight on dodgers on this size boat, if anyone has one they wanna sell, and how soon ya'll took your kids out on the boat?

Great thanks for the link.  I would think I could buy one new for that price.  Maybe I am way off.  I dunno.  But that is exactly what I was thinking of.

Have you contacted any local marine canvas shops to get a quote?  $400 does seem a bit steep, but that one on CL is a NICE one...tall, you can actually sit comfortably beneath it.  The ones I used to install on the 225/250 Ospreys you had to crouch, or lean way back... :?

The one posted for sale also includes the bow cushion. Not sure how much that adds to the cost...

I did some calling around today.  It turns out that the spray dodger on that 175 is a fair deal.  They sell for $1400-$1800 new!  I just about fell over when I heard that price.  So I might have to call that feller and see if his dodger is available.  I had no idea that canvas was that expensive.

Yeah it can be very expensive due to labor.  I have built some tops and they are very time consuming since they are made to fit...  now once a pattern is made your price per unit will go down a bit but your material costs will still be the same.
